St. Mary's Academy is blessed with a very diverse and multi-talented faculty and staff. We would like you to get the opportunity to know them better through our spotlights. We begin our series by introducing Mrs. Christine Dominigue Bagneris, our Art Instructor.
Cathy Green Miner, LPC-S, a mental health counselor at St. Mary’s Academy has been awarded the Humane and Caring Award by the Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA). The award was given recently during the organization’s annual conference held this month in New Orleans, LA. LCA designates that this annual award honors a person who “gives to others without fanfare or expectation of reward other than personal satisfaction in seeing other persons made happier or the knowledge that some segment of society is enhanced.”
McGruff Visits SMA Elementary Students
Bringing awareness to elementary students about drugs and bullying was the focus of a week-long of activities at St. Mary's Academy. Organized by Jancy Martinez, the mental health counselor for the elementary division, the events featured a visit from McGruff, the crime-fighting dog, Officer Friendly and Major Kevin Winfield of the New Orleans Police Department. Also of note was a career day that featured the elementary students and faculty dressed in the costume or attire of their favorite profession.
"I want my students to feel that they are successful, safe and loved by every adult here," said Martinez adding that she believes the students gained a great deal of insight from the events. "The ultimate goal is to prepare them to handle situations that arise as well as the pressures that can be associated with them."
