In a heartwarming return to her alma mater, St. Mary's Academy (SMA), Raynice Crayton embarks on a new journey as the school's high school band director. The young educator, who graduated from SMA in 2015, brings not only a passion for music but also a deep connection to the school's rich traditions.
Walking the hallowed halls of SMA as a teacher, Crayton reflects on her unique experience. She remarked, "It’s crazy to be on this side, but it still feels just like I remember. I just have a different role now. I enjoy it because I am helping my Maryite sisters, and I am able to do it through music."
Crayton has set her sights on an inspiring vision for the school's band. She aims to instill a sense of pride and tradition in her students by teaching them the history of the Cougar Marching Band and the time-honored traditions it upholds. Her approach is a blend of the traditional and the contemporary, where students will play today's music alongside cherished throwback tunes that never lose their appeal.
