Community Service – Middle School and High School (Grades 6th thru 12th)
When you think about community service, what comes to mind? First, learning what service means and where the community you intend to serve is located will help you to understand what it truly means to give. Service is not self-serving or doing something that will benefit YOU.
The community is a specific area where a group of people live. Such as New Orleans as a whole or particularly – Treme’, Mid-City, or the East. And then, service is supplying a need; the action of helping people or doing work for someone.
But when we ask that you serve others just as Jesus did, we would like to have you look in the communities of New Orleans and see what need there is and help to supply that need. Therefore, community service is doing work for a group of people without compensation. Volunteering to work with the primary purpose of helping people in our communities.
This year our community service program will be built in with the Religion curriculum. Each Religion class will have to complete a service project. You will receive information from your Religion teachers once school begins in the Fall.
If you are so compelled to serve then just let us know what additional service you will provide to the community as an individual student.
